Netscape Mail is an e-mail and Usenet news client that is included in the Netscape browser suite. This document takes you through the steps necessary to check your trilithium.net e-mail account(s) if you are using Netscape Mail. The screen shots are from Netscape Mail 7.0; the dialog boxes might not look exactly the same if you are using another version of Netscape Mail.
You will need to change the sample names and e-mail addresses used in this example for the ones in the account information you have received from us. The sample screen shots show information for the fictional user John Smith with e-mail address/login john@example.com.
Add an accountStart Netscape Mail. Under the File menu, select New and then Account. This will start the Account wizard (shown to the right). Select E-mail account and press Next. | ![]() |

Server InformationWhen checking and downloading mail, you'll use a server called mail.trilithium.net and a protocol known as POP3. When sending mail you use the SMTP protocol and the server smtp.trilithium.net. Select POP, enter mail.trilithium.net for Incoming Server and smtp.trilithium.net for Outgoing Server. Press Next. | ![]() |
User NameYour user name on the mail server is the same as your e-mail address, so enter the address in this dialog box too. Press Next. | ![]() |
Account NameEnter a descriptive name for your account (this name is merely for your convenience and doesn't affect the communication with the mail server). Press Next, and then Finish. The wizard is done, but you'll need to change some more settings before your mail account is ready to be used. | ![]() |
Secure POP3The mail server uses encryption to protect your password and other sensitive information from eavesdropping. Select Mail & Newsgroups Account Settings from the Edit menu in Netscape Mail. Go to the Server Settings page in the dialog box that is displayed, then activate the Use secure connection (SSL) option. The port number should now change from 110 to 995. | ![]() |
SMTP encryption and authenticationFor security reasons, you need to authenticate yourself before you can send mail through our server. The options relevant for SMTP authentication may be found under Outgoing Server (SMTP). Make sure the Use name and password option is enabled and that the user name shown here is the same as your e-mail address. Change the Use secure connection (SSL) setting to When available. If your ISP blocks traffic on port 25, you'll also need to change the port number to 465. | ![]() |
Certificate warningYou may receive this warning message the first time you check mail with your account. This is because your computer is not configured to trust the mail.trilithium.net server by default. You'll need to select Remember this certificate permanently and click Continue to indicate that you consider our mail server trustworthy enough to use. | ![]() |
